Brenda Mellick - Cairns Oil, Acrylic Mixed Media Artist
Born in Wagga Wagga, New South Wales I moved with my family to Cairns in 1972. Over 35 years I established myself as a Potter and Ceramic Artist until 1999 when I moved on to other crafts – porcelain dolls, mohair bears, folk art, silk painting and I am still making patchwork quilts.
In 2003 my painting journey took me toacrylics on canvas, with Cairns art tutors Eula Jensen and Bev Gribble.
The well sought after Cairns Art Escape - Winter School in the Tropics, were another huge learning curve for me. In 2005 Art Escape I had the pleasure of painting magnificent floral watercolours with our well kown and respected Cairns Artist, Michael Ferris. 2006 was even more challenging in my artistic adventures with an incredible week painting acrylics with Gary Duncan. It is since then that I have found my niche and paint with mixed media, oils and acrylics under the guidance of Greg Dwyer.
My love to paint flowers is a journey in itself. The colours, diversity of the flowers and shapes are a constant intrigue to me. Living in Tropical North Queensland will continue to be an endless source of the splendid variety of flowers. This should keep me painting for many more years to come.
